I hope I’m not alone in this.
I spend the whole summer dreaming about the cozy weather, the cool layered outfits, and the entire wintery vibe. Still, as soon as those are here, the roads are covered with snow, and the only acceptable plan is to bundle up and stay inside, those dreams vanish, and all I want is to go back to shorts, sandals, and sun.
I guess one can never be happy!
The thing about winter is that the environment itself is not always very inviting. It’s a fact that having more sunlight makes us more active, more energetic, and definitely happier. And when the sunlight is gone by 5:30 pm, well… let’s just say we are not spreading enthusiasm.
However, all the seasons — including winter — are just a reminder that nothing stays the same for too long, so we might as well look at the bright side and enjoy the little things that get better around this time of the year.
4 Winter Plans to Fall in Love with the Cool Weather
…so instead of fighting the cold, I decided to collect the little experiences that only winter can bring. The things we can’t do in July, no matter how hard we try, so we can make this season special. I’ve built a little list for myself, but maybe you want to take a look and get some ideas.

Embrace Slow Mornings with a Warm Drink
In the summer, the sun sneaks in through the windows before I’m even awake, so sleeping in is not really an option. But winter gives us these soft, late sunrises we can actually enjoy. I’ve made a ritual out of watching the light change while holding a steaming mug of hot cocoa or my morning coffee, and I promise you the vibes warm my soul. Of course, this requires me to go to bed early enough to feel well-rested by sunrise, but that’s another story…

Take a Short Walk in the Winter Silence
Snow does this thing where it makes everything feel still and peaceful. I’m not usually excited to step outside in the cold, but I recently discovered that a short walk when the world is covered in white is worth it, even when I always come back inside freezing.
Have a Holiday Movie and Show Marathon
Did I mention Home Alone somewhere? I should’ve, because that’s my favorite Christmas movie of all time. I never said I was very original! But I’m sure you can agree that this movie has such a comforting vibe, and it only makes sense to watch it at 50°F or below. I don’t make the rules. So, I start there, and then jump to Harry Potter or Game of Thrones and just continue the wintery line, weekend after weekend.

Enjoy a Seasonal Tradition Treat
Holiday treats might sound cliché, but I’m all in! Three years ago, I bought a Holiday Desserts Cookbook, and I’ve been preparing its cinnamon roll recipe ever since. The first time I baked those was during a snowstorm, so now I wait for the first snow of the season to bake. I don’t know what it is about cooking with cinnamon, nutmeg, and spices that warms you from the inside out, but I plan on keeping my tradition ad infinitum because, I mean… It’s cinnamon rolls!! But hey, you’re welcome to choose a special treat and make it your own during the season.
These are the little winter plans I’ve been doing since the thermometers dropped below socially acceptable temperatures. Of course, I pair them with comfy clothes (I’m obsessed with sets lately), fluffy slippers, and tons of lip balm. I hope you get one or two ideas to enjoy the weather, because I promise you: it doesn’t take much, and the main thing is to do whatever makes you forget, even for a second, that it gets dark at 5:30 pm.
